My Bone Health Journey
A bit about me and why I care so much about bone health.
I was born in a military hospital in Coral Gables, Florida. At 5 months old, it was evident that my hip bones were not normal.
By age 7, after numerous surgeries, hospitals became a second home for me, a place of both struggle and familiarity. Those experiences shaped how I see and engage with the world today.
From age 10-22, I masked my pain, my deformities, my 2 inch limp and hid my body, to the best of my ability, behind my smile. Even with the gain of some strong biceps from pulling myself and my body cast around on a handmade gurney from my grandpa mac, I hid my lower body extremities from my upper body strength.
It’s amazing how the body adapts, and even more so, how I found strength in and through my limitations.
At age 23, I was swept up by my heart throb, engaged to him at 24, married him at 26, and had all 3 kids by 29. He’s still my husband of 25 years. And yes, we were crazy. And yes, I was in severe pain before, during and after ALL childbirths (another post for another day).
At age 30, with 3 babies, and BONE TO BONE pain, I had a total hip replacement. This was WAY before hip replacements were cool. The surgery was long, the recovery was long, and it took me a year to believe that the doctors did it right. I was convinced they made it worse (that’s 30 years of pain talking right there).
That’s a lifetime of endurance before 30 — three kids, relentless pain, and a major surgery that wasn’t exactly routine at the time. No wonder it took a year to trust that things were actually better. When you’ve lived with pain for that long, it becomes part of your identity in a way — like your body’s default setting and you don’t know it differently, until you do…
I finally realized, Okay, this actually worked?
By age 34, I embraced parenting full time, and liked the “no pain in the bones” feeling. Where did I start? WALKING. I started walking a lot. Then, I started riding a bike. Then I ran a mile for the first time ever. Then I started swimming.
The world truly felt like my oyster, everything was before me and it was SO AMAZING TO BE PAIN FREE IN THE BONES.
So, if you think I do all this for fun, you are wrong. I do it passionately and holistically because I believe you can be in bone to bone pain, and in suffering for years - gut health, heart health, mindset health…
AND you can reverse it all!
All this is required for change is just showing up and starting.
It won’t take as long as it did for me, I promise. Because I train and teach you to START WHERE YOU ARE and GROW WHERE YOU WANT TO GO, teaching you how to stoke one habit at a time, until you feel so good, you want and crave more good feelings for your bones, your joints, your whole beautiful bone self.
It’s time to START where you are. Sign up for a discovery call with me today, and let’s get you started on a pain free, gut healthy, heart healthy, mindset happy lifestyle.
