Small Pivots
Here in the Northeast, we are settling into our first frost and colder days, and it already feels like summer was such a long time ago. This sudden change can feel overwhelming you step into a new month, especially if Fall has been a hustle and the holidays are upon us - but there is always a way to walk it out, talk it out, and work it out.
Here’s how you can keep making small pivots in your health this season:
Rest is best.
Make your small moves better.
Eat good lean protein and fiber in your meals.
Sounds too simple to work? These small shifts make all the difference. Let me explain.
The last few weeks I have been “off” with an infection in my wrist which led to antibiotics. With an upset stomach, some weird chest pain, and lots of doctor visits, I still made the choice to take small pivots each day and just do what I could. And here is what I learned…
Prioritizing rest
Prioritizing rest, allowed not just for my body to heal, but my mind to have clarity in purpose. I practice a minimum of 7 hours, usually 8 hours of sleep. But my body was craving more. I could feel it and needed it. So these last 3 nights I turned off the screens by 8:30pm, made the room dark and cold, and slept in until 7am (which is sleeping in for me;)! It is AMAZING to me that after 3 nights of consistent sleep how much better you feel.
How could you make a small shift tonight to give yourself more sleep?
Small moves really do make a difference.
With all the busy-ness that will be on your schedule these next few months, it is NOT a time to be in the gym longer or increase your weights - unless all your stars are aligning just right. It is a time to maintain muscle, keep resistance light and just keep moving. Adjusting to shorter durations of time under tension in your strength training can allow time and space for a few more steps outdoors. And in a busy, stressful season, this is a great pivot.

Just keep moving is the motto of this season ahead.
Eat well to feel well.
Starting your day with protein, fiber, carbohydrates and healthy fats gives you more control in your nutrition. The first meal of the day is THE MEAL that you are MOST in control of during the day. Control what you can and you will control this season one bite and one meal at a time.
Need a few suggestions of how to get all those macro and micronutrients into one meal? Check out one of my Instagram Posts:

When life happens, you may find yourself just moving from thing to thing.
It’s hard to slow down and see perspective. But when life happens for you, space and shape take on a new dimension of health and allow for a richer experience in the little moments of joy.
This is what more rest, small moves, and macro dense meals can do for you this season.
Yes, you can make this your best season yet with small pivots - one step and one day at a time.
