How to Navigate Through the Holidays
WHICH MINDSET DO YOU HAVE TODAY? Fixed or Growth?
Here’s a quick way to find out. Which phrase are you more likely to say…
“What good can I offer this great day I have been given?” That means you are in a growth mindset.
Or, “I will wait until January to reflect.” That means you are in a fixed mindset.
I’m here to tell you that you are not sabotaging any of your health goals by reflecting, nourishing and finding joy in each day this holiday season.
You might feel some negative thoughts creep in when you have had an “off day” but guess what, you are human and we ALL have off days. The most important thing to do when you have an off day is to
Name it.
Recognize it, for what it is. It’s ONE DAY.
Get back to it the next day.
As a veteran nutrition coach, I consistently say these 5 things to my clients a lot during the holiday season when it might feel like you have a few more off days than normal.
Here are the top 5 ways I help clients navigate this season and I hope they might help you too:
ENJOY YOUR DAY. But get BACK AT IT-in some way the next day get back to that normal routine.. It might be as simple as eating blueberries or getting some fresh air outdoors with a walk. Keep the steps simple, so that each day is doable.
THINK GREEN. Green as in vegetables. Green veggies will WIN all the time for your gut health. They aid in digestion, add fiber and eliminate toxins, while giving your immune system a boost of vitamins and minerals.
PLAN A PROTEIN in your first meal of the day, every day. Quick and easy go to’s are tuna, hummus, jerky, seasoned chickpeas, yogurt with seeds, smoothies. On those days when you are out to breakfast still seek protein, as it will satiate and alleviate blood sugar spikes. If traveling, grab those egg bites (they are everywhere nowadays!)
WATER. WATER. WATER. Water hydrates. Water replenishes. Water eliminates toxins. Water helps food digest better. A glass of water before coffee or any and every meal is a bonus for your gut health this season..
MOVE. PLAY. MOVE. Change it up and HAVE SOME FUN with your movement! Take the extra steps- in the parking lot, on the errands, to the office, to the outdoors!! Play with your kids, big kids too! Do something different with your family that is FUN and ACTIVE for all (bowling, golfing, handstands in the water, snowshoeing, walk backwards down the street… make it fun.)
Most importantly, health is HOW WE TAKE CARE OF EACH OTHER.
Make sure to spend some time in reflection. Renew your purpose in your health by reflecting on ALL the good, the joy, the peace you helped bring to others in 2023 with a heart full of love and gratitude.
Heart-full health is meant to be held for ALL this holiday season.
Yours in health,
Jenny
